How an install in Leicester actually goes
Four steps, and you know the price before step three.
An engineer walks the rooms, then works outside. On tight plots it is the outdoor unit position, the party-wall line and the noise path to the nearest neighbouring window that do most of the design work.
FreeSystem sized against your actual rooms, with the quote agreed in writing before anything is ordered.
Fixed in writingMost single-room installs in Leicester are done in a day. On terraced streets we agree access, parking and working space before the day rather than on it.
F-Gas registeredPressure tested, charged, performance logged and the controls explained properly before we leave.

City centre, suburbs and student lets
What the housing here is actually like, and what that means once we are on site.
Property types we see in Leicester
Leicester's housing is led by extensive Victorian and Edwardian terracing through Highfields, Belgrave, Clarendon Park and the inner suburbs, with interwar and post-war semis further out at Evington, Knighton and Braunstone, and city-centre apartments and converted hosiery factories in and around the Cultural Quarter.
What that means for the installation
The terraces are the volume work and they are well suited to a wall-mounted split, with the outdoor unit in the rear yard. Where a house has a rear extension, the extension roof is usually the tidiest condenser position. Converted factory apartments are the constrained case — solid brick, restricted elevations and often a lease that governs external fixings.
Planning in Leicester: what changed in 2025
The most useful part of the May 2025 reform, for anyone buying comfort cooling rather than heating, is that air-to-air systems used to cool a property became permitted development for the first time. Previously only heating-only heat pumps qualified. The one-metre boundary rule went at the same time, the size limit rose to 1.5 cubic metres and detached houses gained a second permitted unit. Noise is still governed by MCS 020 at the neighbouring window. If you are in a flat, none of this displaces your lease or the freeholder's consent. Leicester's Victorian terraces gain from the boundary change; New Walk, Clarendon Park and Stoneygate remain governed by their conservation designations.
What goes into what
The property types we actually see in Leicester, and what each one decides about the install.
One free elevation, and the side passage is normally wide enough for the unit now the boundary standoff has gone. Short pipe runs.
Two or more free elevations, and since 2025 a detached property can take two outdoor units under permitted development.
Consent from the freeholder or management company comes first, and in converted stock the only available unit position is often a shared rear elevation - which makes the noise limit the binding condition.
Why Leicester calls us back
Four things we will not move on.
Legally certified on refrigerant
Every engineer on a Leicester job is F-Gas registered, with compliant records kept on every installation.
The quote is the price
Agreed in writing before any work begins, after a free on-site assessment. Nothing added afterwards.
Sized to the room, not the catalogue
Systems specified against your actual rooms and usage. In closely built housing that usually means resisting the urge to oversize, because a unit that short-cycles is both louder and dearer to run.
Backed after we leave
Comprehensive warranty on parts and labour, backed by an established group trading since 2019.
