How an install in Boston actually goes

Four steps, and you know the price before step three.

01
We come and look

An engineer walks the rooms, then works outside. On open, exposed plots we look at where the outdoor unit sits relative to the prevailing wind, and how meltwater leaves the base during a winter defrost cycle.

02
You get the design and the price

System sized against your actual rooms, with the quote agreed in writing before anything is ordered.

Fixed in writing
03
We install it

Most single-room installs in Boston are done in a day. Access is rarely the constraint here - the outdoor unit base and the condensate route take the planning.

Commissioned and handed over

Pressure tested, charged, performance logged and the controls explained properly before we leave.

Covering Boston & Nearby

We install throughout Lincolnshire — nearby towns have their own local pages too.

Salt air changes the spec

What the housing here is actually like, and what that means once we are on site.

Property types we see in Boston

Boston is Georgian and Victorian brick around the market place and the Stump, with interwar and post-war housing spreading out and newer estates on the edges. The land is flat and low-lying, and the town sits close to the Wash.

NEAR THE SEAFURTHER INLAND

What that means for the installation

Proximity to the Wash means outdoor units see more salt-laden air than an inland town, and that shortens the life of an untreated condenser coil. For properties in and around Boston we specify units with a corrosion-protected coil where the exposure justifies it, and we site the condenser out of the most direct salt-bearing wind rather than simply on the most convenient wall.

Planning in Boston: what changed in 2025

Boundary standoff1m → none
Permitted unit size0.6 → 1.5m³

Since May 2025 there is a good deal more freedom in where an outdoor unit can go. The requirement to keep it a metre from the boundary was dropped, the permitted volume rose from 0.6 to 1.5 cubic metres, a detached house can now carry two units, and air-to-air systems used for cooling came within permitted development having previously sat outside it. The constraints that remain are the MCS 020 noise limit measured at the nearest neighbouring window, listed building consent, and conservation-area elevations fronting a highway. Boston's post-war estates have space to spare, so the size limit matters more than the boundary rule — it allows a larger unit on a bigger house without an application.

What goes into what

The property types we actually see in Boston, and what each one decides about the install.

Detached

Two or more free elevations to choose between, so the unit can be put on the sheltered side. Since 2025 a detached house can take two units.

Listed and conservation

Consent is the starting assumption. None of the 2025 relaxations apply to a listed building or a highway-facing elevation in a conservation area.

Flats and apartments

Freeholder or management company consent comes before anything else, and the outdoor unit position is usually decided for you.

Why Boston calls us back

Four things we will not move on.

01

Legally certified on refrigerant

Every engineer on a Boston job is F-Gas registered, with compliant records kept on every installation.

02

The quote is the price

Agreed in writing before any work begins, after a free on-site assessment. Nothing added afterwards.

03

Sized to the room, not the catalogue

Systems specified against your actual rooms and usage. On exposed plots the winter heating figure, not the summer cooling one, is normally what sets the capacity.

04

Backed after we leave

Comprehensive warranty on parts and labour, backed by an established group trading since 2019.
