How an install in West Yorkshire actually goes

Four steps, and you know the price before step three.

01
We come and look

An engineer walks the rooms, then works outside. On a sloping site the outdoor unit needs a level, free-draining base, and a position clear of the wind that funnels along the valley.

02
You get the design and the price

System sized against your actual rooms, with the quote agreed in writing before anything is ordered.

Fixed in writing
03
We install it

Most single-room installs in West Yorkshire are done in a day. On a sloping plot the unit base is set out first, because a genuinely level mount is what keeps it quiet.

Commissioned and handed over

Pressure tested, charged, performance logged and the controls explained properly before we leave.

West Yorkshire is really two jobs

What the housing here is actually like, and what that means once we are on site.

Property types across West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire runs from the back-to-backs and Victorian villas of Leeds, through the gritstone terraces of Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield and Dewsbury, to the flatter brick towns of Castleford, Pontefract and Wakefield.

LOWER GROUNDHIGHER GROUND

What that means for the installation

Two constraints recur across the county. Solid gritstone and sandstone walls, frequently over 450mm thick, make core drilling a slower and more skilled job than in cavity-wall brick. And the Pennine topography means the vertical separation between indoor and outdoor units can approach the system limit on steep plots — a real design check, not a formality. On the flatter eastern towns neither applies and the work is conventional.

Planning in West Yorkshire: what changed in 2025

Boundary standoff1m → none
Permitted unit size0.6 → 1.5m³

What permitted development allows changed materially in May 2025, though not evenly across an area this size. The one-metre boundary standoff was removed, the size ceiling for an outdoor unit rose from 0.6 to 1.5 cubic metres, detached houses were permitted a second unit, and air-to-air systems in cooling mode were brought inside the regime for the first time. The MCS 020 noise limit at the nearest neighbouring window remained, and nothing changed for listed buildings or for conservation-area elevations that face a highway. Across the county the steep stone terraces gain most from the boundary change, while Saltaire's World Heritage status and the dense conservation coverage are unaffected.

What goes into what

The property types we actually see in West Yorkshire, and what each one decides about the install.

Terraced houses

On a slope the rear yard is often stepped, so the outdoor unit needs a built-up level base rather than sitting straight on the ground.

Detached

Usually a choice of elevations, which on a slope means the unit can go where the ground is level and the wind is off it. Two units are now permitted on a detached house.

Listed and conservation

Consent is the starting assumption. None of the 2025 relaxations apply to a listed building or a highway-facing elevation in a conservation area.

Solid stone or brick

Thick solid walls with no cavity. Cores are longer and slower, so routes are planned around existing openings and boxed internally rather than cut on the day.

Why West Yorkshire calls us back

Four things we will not move on.

01

Legally certified on refrigerant

Every engineer on a West Yorkshire job is F-Gas registered, with compliant records kept on every installation.

02

The quote is the price

Agreed in writing before any work begins, after a free on-site assessment. Nothing added afterwards.

03

Sized to the room, not the catalogue

Systems specified against your actual rooms and usage - including which elevation the room is on, because aspect and exposure change the load more than floor area does.

04

Backed after we leave

Comprehensive warranty on parts and labour, backed by an established group trading since 2019.

F-Gas Register
